Kingham was named England's Favourite Village by Country Life — and once you arrive, it's easy to see why. A proper Cotswolds village with a traditional green, stone cottages, and the kind of quiet that's increasingly hard to find, Kingham rewards guests who slow down and explore on foot.

Walk across the playing fields and you'll find two of the area's finest gastropubs: the Wild Rabbit (Alex Polizzi's Bamford-owned inn) and the Kingham Plough (a perennial favourite for seasonal British cooking). Both are a ten-minute stroll from the house.

Walking and cycling

The Evenlode Valley is one of the Cotswolds' most beautiful and least-crowded walking areas, with easy access from Kingham. The Oxfordshire Way passes through the village. For cyclists, the lanes between Kingham, Churchill, Chipping Norton, and Charlbury are quiet and scenic.

Villages and market towns

Kingham sits at the heart of the northern Cotswolds, with some of the region's best-known destinations within easy reach: Bourton-on-the-Water (25 mins), Burford (20 mins), Stow-on-the-Wold (20 mins), Chipping Campden (35 mins), and Cirencester (40 mins).

Daylesford Organic Farm Shop is five minutes by car or a pleasant 20-minute walk across the fields — and for many guests it's a highlight of the stay in itself. Browse the farm shop for exceptional local produce, have breakfast or lunch in the café, or book a class at the Daylesford Cookery School.

For a slower morning, Chipping Norton (known locally as 'Chippy') has a weekly market, independent bakeries, and a thriving high street just ten minutes by car. Further afield, the Saturday market in Moreton-in-Marsh is one of the largest in the Cotswolds.
